Dvor is a settlement on the left bank of Krka river in Suha krajina region. Here was the important ironworks industry center from the end of the 19th to 20th century. Below the declivity nearby the river was built an ironworks and foundry which started to work in the year 1796. In the middle of the 19th century the ironworks of Dvor became the largest and best equipped ironworks in Slovenia. The iron ore was excavated in wider neighborhood (settlements: Stavča vas, Žužemberk, Soteska, Črmošnjice... e.t.c. ) but the quality become worser, beside the location was away from the important traffic routes, so the operation stopped in the year 1891. Here are only a renovated ruins of the smelting furnace nowadays. The river nearby Dvor flows here with the number of cascades and some ruins of the sawmills are only a pale memory of the past... |
