Savica is a karst spring, waterfall, and stream that flows into Lake Bohinj through a delta. The Savica waterfall is certainly one of the most famous Slovenian waterfalls, possessing a touch of romance and significant historical importance. It is one of the most visited waterfalls in Slovenia and holds great tourist value for the Bohinj region.

The greatest Slovenian poet, France Prešeren, celebrated the waterfall in his poems—most notably, the idea for his famous epic poem, The Baptism on the Savica (Krst pri Savici), was likely born at its base. During summer at dawn, when the first sunrays touch the falling stream, a magnificent rainbow forms over the water.

The visible part of Savica receives water from the area of Črno jezero (Black Lake), located 500 m higher. Savica is a unique phenomenon among the world's waterfalls, as the water flow splits into two streams within the hidden underground. The lower-lying right stream is 25 m high, while the left stream is 78 m high. After heavy rainfall, a magnificent "neighbor" can appear: the multi-stage Komarča Falls, which can exceed 550 m in height.

ACCESS

From Hotel Zlatorog near Lake Bohinj, a well-marked footpath leads towards the waterfall (approx. 1 hour of relaxed walking). A more common route starts from the parking lot at Dom Savica. From there, follow the signposts across a stone bridge and uphill along a well-maintained path. The path features numerous stone stairs, leading to a wooden pavilion with a beautiful view of the waterfall in about 15 minutes.
