There is but a few minutes walk from the wooden footbidge to the stone
bridge (built in 1895) across the Kozjak brook , under which the first
cascade fals into a deep pool. A left tributary of the Soča, the Kozjak
brook with its headwaters in several branches high under Mt. Krnicica (2142
m), runs through several gorges and makes six waterfalls of which the visitors
can see only the lowest two.
8. On return from the Kozjak waterfalls,
the walk leads to the left and upwards to a fortress of World War I. On
the elevation stands a gun emplacement and an observation post. Dug in
the slope not far from them is an arranged cavern which belongs to a series
of shelters arrayed into a system of circular defense. Most of these caverns
had been filled up, but three of them were later emptied. From the top
of the observation post opens a beautiful view over a large part of Kobarid
HIstorical Walk and the green pools of the Soča. |
