Planjava is an approximately 500‑metre‑long mountain ridge in the central Kamnik–Savinja Alps, distinguished by two prominent summits: the western peak of Planjava (2394 m n.v.) and the eastern peak of Planjava (2392 m n.v.). It is the highest peak east of Kamniško sedlo, making it an important landmark on the transition between the Kamniška Bistrica valley and Logarska dolina.

Structure of the ridge and the position of the summits

  • The western summit of Planjava rises directly east above Kamniško sedlo (1876 m). Its southern slopes are more open and accessible, while the northern side drops steeply toward Repov kot and the upper Kamniška Bistrica valley.

  • The eastern summit of Planjava is only slightly lower and is marked with a summit register, placed on a scenic edge of the ridge. This point also serves as the natural starting point for continuing the route eastward.

The ridge between the two summits is rugged, with exposed passages and short rocky steps typical of the limestone structure of Planjava.

Continuation of the ridge

From the eastern summit, the ridge branches in two directions:

1) Northeast

The ridge continues toward:

  • Vilice (2343 m) – a distinct saddle between Planjava and Lučka Baba,

  • Lučka Baba (2331 m) – a panoramic peak above Lučka Bela and Korošica.

This section of the ridge is more broken, with sharp transitions and steep northern walls descending into Repov kot.

2) Southeast

The ridge descends toward:

  • Srebrno sedlo (2115 m) – an important high‑mountain pass between Planjava and the Zeleniške špice ridge.

This direction is more open, with characteristic grassy and scree‑covered slopes interspersed with rocky sections.

Relief and geomorphology

Planjava is composed of compact Triassic limestone, which forms:

  • steep northern walls plunging into the depths of Repov kot,

  • broken southern slopes leading toward Kamniško sedlo and Korošica,

  • ridge ledges and steps shaped by freeze‑thaw weathering,

  • karst features on the summit area, including fissures, karren, and small dolines.

Due to its position on the watershed between the Savinja basin and the Kamniška Bistrica valley, Planjava offers extensive views, especially northward toward Logarska dolina, Ojstrica, and the northern faces of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps.

Significance of Planjava in the mountain landscape

Planjava is notable for:

  • its connecting role between Kamniško sedlo, Korošica, and the ridge toward Lučka Baba,

  • its rugged ridge traverse, which forms part of several classic high‑mountain routes,

  • its orientation value, with the eastern summit marked by a summit register at the junction of several paths,

  • its panoramic views across the central Kamnik–Savinja Alps.
