Languedoc-Roussillon/ Département of Gard/ Pont du Gard.
Pont du Gardis one of the most preserved Roman aqueducts. It
was built in 19 B.C to carry water to Nimes. Pont du Gard (pont = bridge)
is a three-level stone aqueduct crossing the Gardon River valley, 25 km
west of Avignon.
The Pont du Gard was added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites
in 1985.

the bridge was built on
three levels, it is 49 m high, the longest level is 275 m long.
Lower level has 6 arches, 142 m long, 6 m thick,
22m high.
Middle level has 11 arches, 242 m long,
4 m thick, 20 m high.
Upper level has 35 arches, 275 m long, 3 m thick,
7 m high.
