Vipava Castle. Only ruins are remaining of the previous Old Castle above the Vipava. The castle was documented in the year 1275 and deserted already in the 17th century. From the Castle hill is a nice vista to Vipava Valley. Considering the “strategic” geographical position of Slovenia is logical that the area was full of very important historical events. On the area which is displayed on the panoramic photo the most important historical battle of that time was fought in time of September 5–6 394: the battle between the Roman army of the Eastern Emperor Theodosius I and army of Western Roman ruler Eugeniusz. |
