The settlement of Goreljek developed from the former mountain of Koprivnica farmers, which still operates as a living mountain in the summer, where cattle graze, which some farmers still milk and curdle milk. There is a small permanent population, and the vast majority of buildings (over 100) are holiday homes that surround the Goreljek Pit Bog, where the Triglav National Park has arranged a learning path.
Goreljek consists of Upper and Lower Goreljek. Zgornji Goreljek, surrounded by Pokljuka spruce forests, lies at an altitude of around 1250 m above sea level on the sediments of a former lake on moraine soils.
