Description & Access
Kozjak is a left tributary of the Soča river. Its springs collect water from the high mountains including Oblo brdo (1957m), Krnicica (2142m), and Srednji vrh (1957m). There are six waterfalls in total along its course, but only the lower two are accessible via the established tourist route.
The Veliki Kozjak waterfall is exceptionally picturesque. The brook has carved a natural hall that resembles a karst cave, falling into a stunning dark-green pool. The atmosphere at the bottom of the gorge is quiet and cavernous.
Access
From Kobarid, cross the Napoleon Bridge over the Soča river in the direction of Drežnica. After 150 meters, follow the signposts to the left leading to WWI remains and the Veliki Kozjak waterfall. A picturesque and well-maintained footpath leads through the gorge. It is an excellent family-friendly hike; the entire walk from Kobarid takes less than 60 minutes.
