Amsterdam is the capital and the largest city of Netherland. The prime settlement was established at the dyke (dam) along the Amstel River (Amstel-Dam > Amsterdam). The main attrraction of the city are picturesque canals and teh city architecture with the charasteristic narrow houses from 17th and 18th century.
