The Parish Church of St. Leonard was built in 1481. Its basis is gothic.
The bell tower, attached to the church on the north, has a neogothic roof,
covered in slates. The interior was made by artists of the 18
th
,19
th
and the 20
th
century: Matija Bradaška,
Miha Maleš, Tyrolse painter Josef Plank, Henrieta Langus, Ivana Kobilica,
Janez Krstnik Potočnik, Jožef Šubic, Leopold Layer respectively his workshop,
Tyrolese painter Ferdinand Stuffesser, Ignacij Ahrer and Peter Janežič.
The church organ from 1862 was built by Franc Deu from Ljubljana. The altar,
the Crucifix, the bookrest and the ambo are works of artistic forgery,
made by locals Jože Šolar and Joža Bertoncelj. On the church facade there
are quality stone and cast tombstones built in as well as a memorial plate
to the victims of the First World War. another quality work is a wooden
crucifix next to the presbytery. In the cementery there is an iron crucifix
from 1886 and some nicely forged headstones. From the walls there is a
beautiful view of the settlement caugh into the narrow valley and the other
church situated a little higher. |
