San Gimignano is located in Tuscany in
Siena
province, 28 km north-west from the city of Siena. The town is situated on a 334 m high hill above the Elsa Valley. San Gimignano is known by its medieval historic nucleus which architecture was influenced by Pisa, Siena and Florence. The architectural feature of the town is fourteen preserved high towers from the 11th and 13th centuries, which dominate over the town. The historic centre of San Gimignano has been declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site. |
