| It is interesting: the name of the castle is Chenonceau but the settlement nearby is Chenonceaux. The castle stands as a bridge over the Cher River. In 1559, on the death of Henry II, his widow Catherine de Medici forced Diane to give up Chenonceau in exchange for Chaumont-sur-Loire. The queen became the regent of the kingdom and she ruled France from this castle. |
