The Little Soča Gorge (Mala korita Soče) is one of the most picturesque natural features in the Triglav National Park. The Soča River, known for its emerald green color, has carved deep, narrow channels into the limestone bedrock through the process of river evorsion.
The gorge is characterized by its narrow, smooth-walled canyons and crystal-clear pools. It is a prime example of the intense geological activity that shaped the Julian Alps.
Geological Significance
The channels were formed by swirling water carrying gravel and stones, which acted as natural tools to drill deep, cylindrical holes into the rock. Over centuries, these potholes coalesced to form the continuous gorge seen today.
