Pokljuka Gorge (Pokljuška soteska) is located on the northeastern area of the Pokljuka plateau. The gorge is the largest fossil gorge in Slovenia. In the past, a strong glacial outflow from the Pokljuka plateau, the Ribščica brook, excavated a 2 km long canyon that is up to 50 m deep and, in some places, only 50 cm wide.
Nowadays, the Ribščica brook does not have a permanent flow; the channel only fills with water after heavy rainfall on the Pokljuka plateau. Key features of the gorge include natural stone bridges, tight passes, hollows known as 'vrtci' (gardens), and the famous 'Pokljuška luknja' (Pokljuka Hole). It is an essential site within the Triglav National Park and the Slovenian Geological Route.
