Jeruzalem is a small countryside settlement in the Prlekija area, situated 5 km south of the municipality centre Ljutomer. The settlement is situated at an elevation of 384 m and is world-renowned for its magnificent vineyard terraces and high-quality white wines.
The place is dominated by the historic pilgrimage Church of Our Lady of Sorrows. According to local legend, the name was given by Crusaders in the 13th century who, on their way back from the Holy Land, were so enchanted by the beauty of the surrounding hills that they believed they had found the heavenly Jerusalem.
Today, the Jeruzalem wine road offers some of the most stunning views in Slovenia. The unique climate and mineral-rich soil of the Slovenske gorice hills provide ideal conditions for varieties such as Šipon (Furmint), Sauvignon, and Rhine Riesling, making it a mandatory stop for any cultural and enological explorer.
