The Mlinarica stream is a 1300 m long left tributary of the Soča and originates from the area called Mlinarica at an altitude of approximately 1850 m below Mali Razor (2202 m), but the riverbed is torrential with an unstable water flow. The stronger headwaters are at an altitude of 1150 m, where the stream flows in a waterfall into dark and deep troughs with overhanging walls. The troughs are very narrow and are accessible only to experienced and properly equipped alpinists - cave climbing. In its lower course towards the Soča, it flows through a gorge, through which access is arranged for tourists to the entrance to the dark troughs. The stream makes a 382 m elevation difference from the permanent headwaters at an altitude of 1153 to the confluence with the Soča at an altitude of 771 m. Due to its uniqueness, Mlinarica is protected as a natural monument.

ACCESS: About a kilometer down the Vršiška road from the turnoff towards the source of the Soča River, there is a signpost with the sign for Mlinarica. There is also a small parking lot here. You can also get here from the direction of Trenta. It is only 500 meters along the road from the famous Alpinetum Juliana park. At the signpost, we turn off the road onto a well-maintained path to a suspension bridge over the Soča River. Immediately behind the bridge is a signpost with a description of Mlinarica. After just a few minutes, we reach the vintgar, through which the Mlinarica stream flows. From the path, we can descend to the stream, from where we can see an 8-meter-high waterfall. There is a footbridge above the waterfall, and we are already in front of the entrance to the dark gorges. Note: In a violent storm in August 1999, the water flow swept away the footbridges that provided access to the lower part of the gorges. Access is therefore currently not recommended and is at your own risk.
