As two mighty guards, they overlook the Vrata glacial valley. Peričnik is protected as a natural landmark, as there were several ideas in the past to harness the power of its water for electricity. The waterfall has changed its course several times as it cut into the rock. If you look closely at the top, you can see grooves in the wall. In the 1930s, the riverbed above the lower waterfall became clogged, and for a while, Peričnik flowed as a two-stream waterfall.
Peričnik is also a world-class attraction of a special kind: there are very few waterfalls where you can actually walk behind the falling curtain of water. This unique experience is possible at both the upper and lower waterfalls.
ACCESS: Access to the lower waterfall is easy and can be reached by car from Mojstrana. After approximately three kilometers of driving towards the Vrata valley, you reach a log cabin below Peričnik. A short path leads directly to the magnificent 52 m lower waterfall. Walking behind the falls is possible, but a waterproof jacket and helmet are recommended. To reach the upper waterfall, a steep path ascends the right bank of the stream.
