Kostanjevica na Krki is situated on the
man made island which was created with the canal over the meander of Krka
River on the begining of the 13. century. The settlement is situated on
the juncture of the Krsko polje - plain and Dinaric-karst area. Nearby
is Kostanjevica cave. The feature of the settlement is a town like appearance
and two parallel streets between the churches on the north and south side.
Here the inventor Josip Ressel (1793 - 1857) had tested the operation of
the first drafts of ship screw.
