E. BAROQUE HALL (18th
century). A typical feature of Baroque furniture are tabernacle cupboards,
which in the 18th century were a combination of a small chest of drawers
with a cover which served as a desk (bureau) standing on top of a commode.
These cupboards were decorated with intarsia and their curvilinear forms
were full of movement, with bombé and undulating surfaces. Simpler commodes
were also used. The copies of works by Titian and Rubens were painted by
