Metlika is a border town located between the foothills of the Gorjanci Hills and the Obkolp plain. The old town center of Metlika lies on a natural pier above the Obrh stream.
Historic Heritage
To facilitate defense against Ottoman attacks in the past, the old town developed next to Metlika Castle. The town received its market rights in 1323. Today, Metlika is the administrative, economic, and cultural center of the north-eastern part of the Bela krajina region.
The town is famous for its cultural traditions and the Metlika Castle, which houses the Bela krajina Museum, showcasing the rich history and ethnology of the region.
