Lipica

Lipica is situated on the karst plateau south from Sežana. The location is known by the Stud-farm Lipica which has 400 years old tradition of breeding the famous white horses. Lipica is the original home of Lipizzaner rase. The breeding of autochthon Karst horses from Slovenia crossbreded with Spanish, Napolitan and Arabian horses started in the late 16. century. Young stallions are normally darker, and with age the horses get their characteristic white colour.
