Vrh Korena (1,999 m) lies in the central part of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps, positioned on a varied ridge that connects several characteristic two‑thousand‑metre peaks of the area. It forms part of a recognisable group of summits surrounded by Kompotela to the west, Mokrica to the southwest, and Košutna to the east, together shaping a broad high‑mountain landscape above the Koren pasture.
The ridge of Korena is known for its gentle, undulating slopes that descend northwards into the deeply cut valley of the Kamniška Bistrica, while to the south they open into extensive alpine meadows beneath Mokrica and Kompotela. Its position between the more rugged central ridge and the grassy high‑mountain plateaus gives the summit an exceptionally open character.
From the top, a wide panoramic view unfolds across the main ridges of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps: from the massive group of Grintovec and Kočna in the east, across Planjava and Ojstrica, to the more rounded peaks of Krvavec and the neighbouring plateaus in the west. The high pastures below Kompotela and Mokrica are also clearly visible, giving the area its distinctive alpine yet welcoming appearance.
Despite its elevation, Korena is accessible via relatively easy routes, making it a popular choice for hikers seeking a combination of a gentle ascent and outstanding views in the heart of the Slovenian high mountains.
