Narcissus in Javorniški Rovt
Javorniški Rovt is situated at an altitude of 900 to 950 m – only a few kilometres north-eastern from Jesenice. This high-altitude area is one of the most popular excursion points in the Karavanke mountains, combining rich natural and cultural heritage.
In the central part of the settlement stands Lodge Pristava (Dom Pristava), near which there is a very interesting botanical park. A major feature of this area are the narcissus flowers (locally known as ključavnice), which blanket the slopes of Javorniški Rovt in white from the second half of April to the first half of May, depending on the snow conditions.
Just below Javorniški Rovt is a ravine carved by the Javornik stream, which features several picturesque waterfalls. The most easily accessible is the lower Javornik waterfall, which is over 7 m high and a popular spot for visitors.
The area serves as an excellent starting point for hikers. Several marked trails lead from Lodge Pristava towards the prominent peaks of the Karavanke range:
- Golica (1835 m) – famous for its narcissus meadows and panoramic views,
- Španov vrh (1334 m) – also accessible by a chairlift,
- Veliki vrh (1944 m) – for more experienced hikers,
- Stol (2236 m) – the highest peak of the Karavanke range.
