Karnak is the largest temple complex ever built by man, and displays achievement of many generations of ancient builders. Even the temple complex is in ruins, no site in Egypt is more impressive than Karnak. The Temple is located 3 km northern of Luxor temple and is situated on 100 hectares of land. The old name for Karnak was Ipet-isut, meaning "The Most Sacred of Places".
The temple is nowdays famous for its main Hypostyle Hall with 134 massive columns.

Ancient Thebes with its Necropolis were inscribed to UNESCO human heritage list in 1979.
