Nonza is a small settlement on the Western coast of the Corse Cape (geographical name for Northern most part of Corsica) . Nonza's 1400 m long black-greybeach, which is situated north of the settlement was polluted from the now disused asbestos mine up the coast. The approach and swimming is banned in on that beach (?). The high concentration of the Chromium (Cr) and Nickel (Ni) on the the Nonza beach was most probably caused by the asbestos quarry that lies nearby. Wastes from this quarry were directly dumped into the sea between 1941 and 1965. |
